Argentina continues to move forward in its efforts to modernize public administration through digital transformation. As part of a national strategy to simplify and digitize citizen services, 22 jurisdictions have now fully or partially adopted the National Driver’s License System (SINALIC)—a digital platform that enables citizens to renew or expand their driver's licenses entirely online. This initiative, which represents a major shift in how transit documentation is managed in the country, was officially launched by Decree 196/2025, signed on March 18 by Federico Sturzenegger, Minister of Deregulation and State Transformation.

This legal framework introduces key amendments to the National Traffic Law, making it possible for residents to complete license-related procedures from home, without the need to visit a physical government office. Through SINALIC, users can initiate a license renewal or category expansion directly from a computer or mobile device—marking a new era in Argentina’s public service delivery model, one that is more streamlined, transparent, and citizen-focused.

A New Digital Model for Managing Driver’s Licenses

SINALIC is designed as a secure, centralized system that aims to simplify and modernize the licensing process, while also reducing administrative costs and processing times. Thanks to full integration with the official Mi Argentina app, users are able to verify their identity, choose the type of procedure they wish to complete, pay the National Certificate of Traffic Records (CENAT), book a medical exam, and access their digital license—all in one place.

The system’s most notable features include:

  • Digital ID verification using CUIL and Mi Argentina credentials

  • Automatic access to current license categories

  • Online payment of the CENAT fee, valid for 30 days

  • Integrated booking of certified professionals for mandatory medical evaluations

  • Issuance of a digital license accessible directly through the Mi Argentina app

This new framework not only shortens the timeline for processing but also enhances accountability and security throughout the system.

Jurisdictional Coverage: A Gradual Rollout Across Argentina

When SINALIC was first launched, 19 provinces were already live on the system. In the following days, additional jurisdictions joined, bringing the total to 22 of Argentina’s 24 provinces. The Autonomous City of Buenos Aires (CABA) implemented it partially, while Buenos Aires Province and Formosa have not yet adopted the platform.

The provinces currently operating under SINALIC include:

  • Fully integrated: Santa Fe, Córdoba, Neuquén, Mendoza, Catamarca, Chaco, Salta, Jujuy, Santiago del Estero, Tucumán, Chubut, Corrientes, Misiones, La Rioja, Entre Ríos, San Luis, La Pampa, Tierra del Fuego, San Juan, Santa Cruz, and Río Negro

  • Partially integrated: City of Buenos Aires (CABA), where the system applies only to professional licenses

An outstanding example is the province of Córdoba, which not only adopted SINALIC in full but also delegated—for the first time—the issuance of interjurisdictional professional licenses and began sharing traffic history data with the National System of Traffic Records (SINAT). This marks a significant advancement for the National Road Safety Agency (ANSV) in strengthening oversight and coordination across regions.

Exceptions and Limitations

Despite this significant progress, Buenos Aires Province and Formosa continue to manage driver’s license renewals and expansions using the traditional in-person model. Residents in those provinces must still attend designated centers in order to complete their procedures and do not yet have access to the national digital system.

As for the City of Buenos Aires, authorities clarified that their participation in the system is currently limited to professional drivers. Individuals with private licenses must continue using the city’s existing online platform, which already offers a digitized process and includes 19 medical evaluation centers equipped with certified technology.

Step-by-Step Guide to Processing a Digital Renewal or Expansion

Citizens residing in a province that has joined SINALIC can complete their license procedures by following these steps:

  1. Access the official SINALIC portal: lncargentina.seguridadvial.gob.ar

  2. Verify identity: Enter your CUIL and Mi Argentina credentials. If no account exists, one must be created.

  3. Select the type of procedure: Choose between renewal or category expansion. The system will display current license categories.

  4. Pay the CENAT fee: The National Certificate of Traffic Records must be paid online. It is valid for 30 days.

  5. Schedule a psychophysical exam: Select a certified professional and book a medical evaluation through the platform.

  6. Receive your digital license: After passing the exam, results are uploaded automatically, and the digital license becomes available within the Mi Argentina app.

Citizens who also wish to receive a physical copy of their license may request one for an additional fee. However, this is entirely optional.

Toward Full National Integration

SINALIC stands out as one of the most ambitious digital reforms in Argentina’s transit and mobility sector. Although the system is not yet implemented in 100% of the national territory, its growing adoption demonstrates the feasibility and impact of a fully online process for managing official documentation.

With 22 provinces already integrated and more expected to follow, SINALIC is shaping up to be a cornerstone of modern public administration—one that prioritizes efficiency, data security, and user autonomy. The integration of this platform with national records systems like SINAT also enhances the country’s road safety framework and enforcement capabilities.

In the medium term, Argentina aims to offer a fully digitized experience for all driver’s license procedures, helping citizens across the country access services with greater ease—no matter where they live.
