Argentina has officially announced the launch of its Citizenship by Investment Program, marking a significant step in the country’s strategy to attract foreign capital and strengthen its international investment profile.

The announcement was made during Argentina Week in Paris by Luis Caputo, Argentina’s Minister of Economy, together with Diego Santilli, Chief of Cabinet. According to the official government statement, the program is expected to become operational and begin receiving applications during the fourth quarter of 2026.

This initiative forms part of Argentina’s broader process of international opening and economic integration, supported by reforms aimed at improving the investment climate and encouraging the arrival of foreign capital.

Two Investment Routes

The program will offer two main mechanisms for applicants.

The first option is a direct, non-refundable contribution of USD 350,000 to the National Treasury.

The second option is the subscription of a public bond of USD 800,000, created specifically for this program.

These two routes give investors different ways to participate, depending on whether they prefer a direct contribution or a financial instrument.

Family Members and Additional Contributions

The program will also allow certain family members to apply together with the main applicant, provided they prove the required family relationship and complete the corresponding contribution.

Spouses and children between 18 and 25 years old, unmarried and without children, may apply through an additional contribution of USD 100,000 to the National Treasury.

Children under 18 may apply through an additional contribution of USD 25,000.

Under this structure, a typical family group composed of the main applicant, spouse, and two minor children may apply for Argentine citizenship for a total of USD 500,000 through the contribution route.

Due Diligence and Compliance

The Argentine government has emphasized that the program will include strict due diligence, financial transparency, and risk management standards aligned with international best practices.

All funds must be channeled through the formal financial system and comply with applicable standards related to anti-money laundering, counter-terrorist financing, and financial transparency.

Applications will be subject to a rigorous evaluation process led by the Agency for Citizenship by Investment Programs. This review will include the participation of specialized public bodies such as the State Intelligence Secretariat, the Financial Information Unit, the Ministry of Security, and the Ministry of the Interior.

The evaluation process is expected to include identity verification, source-of-funds analysis, financial and asset review, jurisdictional risk assessment, criminal and reputational background checks, and review of the applicant’s immigration history.

After the evaluation, the Agency will send its recommendation to the National Immigration Office, which will be responsible for approving or rejecting each application.

Why This Matters

Argentina’s Citizenship by Investment Program could position the country as one of the most important new players in the global investment migration market.

Unlike many traditional citizenship by investment jurisdictions, Argentina is a large South American country with significant natural resources, a strong cultural identity, regional influence, and a globally recognized passport.

For international investors and families, the program may offer a new pathway to Argentine citizenship while also creating a formal channel for capital inflows into the country.

The key will be implementation. Clear rules, efficient processing, strong compliance standards, and transparent decision-making will determine whether the program becomes a successful new route for global investors.

Final Analysis

Argentina’s new Citizenship by Investment Program represents a major policy signal.

The country is seeking to attract global investors, strengthen its fiscal and financial position, and project Argentine citizenship internationally as part of a broader investment strategy.

With a USD 350,000 contribution route, a USD 800,000 public bond option, family inclusion rules, and a Q4 2026 launch timeline, the program is now moving from announcement to implementation.
