Luxembourg: Residency for high net-worth investors in one of Europe's financial giants

luxembourg, residency, investment, europe, relocate

Being Europe’s most powerful investment management centre and spanning less than 1000 square miles in total, The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is one of Europe’s hidden gems. With an existence often unknown to most, the landlocked nation has Belgium, Germany and France as its neighbours.

Apart from being one of the best in investments and financial holdings, Luxembourg offers so much more to both citizens and travellers alike. Its capital city of Luxembourg (that’s right - the name of its capital is the same name as the country as a whole) is known for its stellar architectural beauty, a unique and vast history, and is one of the best cities in Europe for walking.

Apart from the capital city, Luxembourg is home to some of the best views and hiking routes in the world, an ideal location and underrated, delicious food. What’s not to love?

If you’re considering adding Luxembourg to your list of nations to invest in, you’ll need to

complete one of the four options below.

The Choices

  • Minimum investment (EUR 500,000) into a Luxembourg company and sign a commitment to continue to do so for five years

  • Minimum investment (EUR 500,000) into a new Luxembourg company and sign a commitment to create and foster at least five employments in the next three years

  • Minimum investment (EUR 3,000,000) into a new investment or management structure with an office in Luxembourg maintaining appropriate substance

  • Minimum investment deposit (EUR 20,000,000) into a Luxembourg financial institution and maintain the deposit for at least 5 years

The Process

Before any formal process can begin, it’s important for each applicant to display the intention to live and reside permanently in Luxembourg. After this, applicants can expect background checks to be completed and, upon passing, can submit their applications for Luxembourg’s residency by investment program to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Following approval, the applicant will receive a Category D Visa.

After being authorised to move to Luxembourg, the visa holder must complete the following:

  • Travel to Luxembourg within 90 days of authorisation

  • Go through a medical check

  • Register with their commune of residence within 3 days of arriving in the country

After this complex process, the applicant can finally exhale and enjoy their new life in Luxembourg. The visa can be renewed after three years if the applicant spends more than half the year in the country. After 5 continuous years in Luxembourg, the applicant is able to receive Luxembourg's citizenship.

Why Luxembourg?

Small and mighty, Luxembourg includes the following benefits for anyone living in the country:

  • One of the world’s highest qualities of life

  • Low investment threshold - no obligation to buy and own real estate

  • Favorable capital gains taxation scheme

  • One of the best geographical locations in Europe
